TWENTY-FIRST DR. (MRS.) DEEPA MARTINS MEMORIAL LECTURE
The Twenty-First Dr. (Mrs.) Deepa Martins Memorial Lecture was held on April 5, 2024 in the School auditorium. Our Honorary Mentor delivered the welcome address and introduced the keynote speaker, Prof. Niraja Gopal Jayal, Political Scientist, Academician, Author & Avantha Chair, King’s College, London.
The Secretary of the St Stephen’s School Society, Ms. Shefali Martins, presented an insight into the life and times of Dr. (Mrs.) Deepa Martins. The keynote speaker delivered the keynote address on ‘The Moral Dilemmas of Being a Good Citizen’.
In her address, Prof. Niraja Gopal Jayal, discussed the values and ideals of citizenship and our responsibilities towards each other in this context. She emphasized the creation of a supportive environment in the society and focused on the importance of socio-cultural diversity. She explained the significance of respecting different communities and their perspectives and ideals. She also exhorted India’s diversity as its core strength that encourages social, political and personal freedom.
The Director, Ms. Bharti Tolumbia, proposed the Vote of Thanks. She said that this lecture will go along way in inspiring students towards understanding the larger conversations of diversity, equity and inclusion in terms of their citizenship.
