AboutThe St. Stephen's School Society was formed in 1985 and on the 4th of July of the same year, the School made its beginning in two rented houses with 120 students and 6 teachers, and with no resources other than the personal conviction of the Founder, Late Shri Gilroy Martins, a young college lecturer, who left a secure career in college education to start a school, believing that it is only in the very young children that one can inculcate values that would lead to strong and morally upright citizens of tomorrow. This is why integrity, discipline and the pursuit of excellence were the founding values of St. Stephen's right from its inception. Shri Gilroy Martins' unwavering determination in the face of insurmountable odds and his single minded focus on improving lives through education with values, has resulted in St. Stephen's Ajmer, establishing itself as an institution of excellence that celebrates the possibilities of the imagination and the perseverance of the human spirit – a legacy that will span and touch generations.

AboutLate Dr. Deepa Martins, a teacher, grass-roots social activist and litterateur who role-modeled these values through her life and work, was the first Secretary of the Governing Body of the St. Stephen's School Society. A gifted teacher, nurturer, institution builder and a passionate social activist, she gave her husband unflinching support in the educational pursuit of providing Ajmer an English medium school that would make Quality Education Accessible. She also dedicated much of her time to social issues in Rajasthan at the grass-roots level through the 'Mahila Samooh' – a women's self-help group she co-founded, and the Inter-Faith Fraternal Association – a group that promotes inter-religious harmony in Ajmer. She also was involved in several other voluntary and NGO efforts in Rajasthan. Dr. Deepa Martins' life reflected the values of working hard, improving knowledge with focus on career, serving family, society, the nation and humanity as a whole – all being complementary, and starting with education. Drawing inspiration from her, St. Stephen's has been active in championing social awareness and communal harmony.
